What is the best Deep Cycle Battery?

Here at Every Battery, we stock the widest range and best quality AGM Batteries in Australia. We're also totally independent, which means we're free to recommend to you whatever brand battery we think is best, rather than pushing the parent companies product! Below is a comparison of the Top 5 Deep Cycle AGM batteries we tend to recommend to our customers, including pros, cons and typical applications.

Agm Deep Cycle Battery Comparison

1) Lifeline AGM

Lifeline batteries are the best of the best. Manufactured by Concord in the USA, these are military spec batteries used by the US ARMED FORCES. They have a VO (heat resistant) rated case, high CCA, high Ah rating and an unmatched reputation. A true "hybrid", they are both a cranking and a Deep Cycle battery. Use them for anything you want, Marine, 4WD, Caravans and Camping, you won't be disappointed. 5 year pro-rata warranty.

Pros:
Very tough
Suitable for vehicle engine bay (VO rated)
Suits 4WD, Caravans and Marine
High Ah Capacity and CCA rating
Made in the USA

Cons:
This superior quality comes at a price!

2) Fullriver DC Series

Our close second recommendation goes to the Fullriver DC (Deep Cycle) Series. We have been selling these batteries for many years now with consistently rave reviews. They are the heaviest in their range (this is a good thing - weight = quality!) and also offer a cranking rating so you can use them as a starter battery in emergencies. We also find that Fullriver (and Lifeline) Batteries have the best chance of recovery after accidental over-discharge (below 12V).

Pros:
Suits 4WD, Caravans and Marine
High Ah Capacity
Heaviest battery in it's category (more lead = higher quality)
Great reputation.

Cons:
Not suitable for vehicle engine bay

3) Optima Batteries

You can't talk about AGM batteries without mentioning the Optima range. With a near legendary status among 4WD and Marine users, these batteries can take a hell of a beating, both physically and power-wise. These are a great choice as a primary starter battery that also needs to run other appliances, or as a secondary battery that will run winches and other high current draw applications.
They tend to have a smaller Ah Capcity than batteries of a similar size, focusing on having a huge CCA rating, so for running fridges they are sometimes not the best choice.
They are VO (heat resistant) rated which means they can go in your vehicles engine bay (or anywhere else).

Pros:
Highly versatile
Suitable for the vehicle engine bay
Suits 4WD, and Marine
Very Tough!
Huge CCA ratings

Cons:
Lower Ah Capacity (not so great for Caravans/fridges)

4) Ultimate Extreme VO AGM Batteries

The Ultimate Extreme batteries are great all-rounders. With a high Ah capacity, VO (heat resistant) rated case and CCA rating, they are the best battery to put in your engine bay as a second battery if you can't afford a lifeline. The high Ah rating makes them great for running fridges, and the CCA rating means you can still run huge winches and turn your engine over in an emergency.

Pros:
Suitable for vehicle engine bay (VO rated)
Suits 4WD, Caravans and Marine
High Ah Capacity
Cranking rating
Dual terminals

Cons:
Not a lifeline ;-)

5) Pure Energy AGM

The Pure Energy batteries are at an entry level price point, but have great 'bang-for-buck'. We have sold literally hundreds of these batteries and we get great feedback. Perfect for those family camping holidays where the battery may only see use for a few weeks a year. Make sure you have a trickle charger to keep it alive when it's in storage!

Pros:
Affordable
High Ah capacity
Suitable for Caravans

Cons:
Not suitable for vehicle the engine bay.
Not suited to Marine
